Beta blocker and cardio-respiratory fitness

Hi Docs. I’ve been listening to your podcasts on “cardio” and this got me thinking about whether beta blockers are effecting my capacity. I certainly feel the limits when I do something intense. My question is whether the limits on heart rate have any negative impact on overall benefits of doing “cardio.” Thanks.

Yes, beta blockers will significantly limit exercise capacity. While there is still certainly a significant benefit, it is unlikely that the same degree of peak aerobic/cardiorespiratory fitness adaptations can be generated while consistently beta blocked.
