Blue light glasses

Probably something I should’ve thought about when I started working from home. For someone who stares at screens all day, from time to time I tend to feel dizzy and get brain fog here and there. I spend about 8 hours a day working, take a break, then jump back on the computer for online school. Is there any benefit that blue light glasses tend to minimize the effects of blue light, or is it made up? If it works, what brands do you recommend? Thank you.

There’s some evidence on benefits of blue light blocking in the evening with respect to circadian rhythms. There aren’t any particular brands we’d recommend. If you’re interested you can give it a shot and see if you notice any difference.

Hello. As an office worker, I can say that you need protection for your eyes. Turn on a blue filter on your computer, pick up glasses, and try to take breaks. You can also do exercises for the eyes, it will help relieve tension.

I use “f.lux” that turns my screen to an orange tint when it gets late in the day. I definitely notice a difference compared to staring at a blue screen well into the night.

Brandon Roberts did a review of the overall literature on his Instagram and has sources cited if you’re interested.

Would you wear these while sleeping? Unless you sleep with your eyes open and your bedroom has a whole bunch of computer monitors or TVs running, I’m not sure there’s enough blue light to make a difference.

As for using computers or other devices in the evening - most now have a “night mode” or similar that reduces the amount of blue light emitted by the display.
