Hey guys, running pb1 atm. When i do a 70% amrap w/ dumbbell press, it goes completely fine, however the backdowns at 62% are literally too hard for me and ill end up not getting 12 reps. As i’d already picked the weight, i decided to simply do it but for 10 reps. Is this okay, or should i just lower the percentage to ~58%. Also, for reference, i was getting around 10 reps with 70% amrap.
Jai,
As you note, the 70% AMRAP (as many reps as possible) set is supposed to be somewhere between ~10-15’ish reps, given that a 10-rep max (10RM) is somewhere ~73% of a 1RM or so. By reducing weight by ~ 8%, I’d expect the set of 12 to be ~ RPE 8-9 with the pre-existing fatigue. If you’re only getting 10 reps and it’s about the same RPE, carry on that way. If it’s RPE 10, I’d probably reduce the weight further.
