Concussions and Lifting

Hi, I am 19 years old and have a history of concussions. However, I stopped playing sports so I haven’t had a concussion in around 2 years. After each concussion, I was instructed to take some time off of lifting.

Now I lift full time. I’ve only started recently so I’m not very strong (~1k total) and at 6’3 180 I could probably be considered underweight. When I do singles, I often get lightheaded, and sometimes lifting gives me headaches. Is this something to be concerned about? I know lightheadedness is fairly common, I’m just a little worried given my history and the fact that it often lasts awhile after the set.

Hi there,

It’s hard to say the significance of these symptoms if you ONLY experience them on singles, but I see why you’d be concerned given your history. If you are experiencing exertional headaches it would be reasonable to check in with your physician on the matter, though.
