Continue PB1 or on to PB2?

Hi BBM team,

Thanks for all of the great content. A bit of background— 33 years old, have been lifting on and off since I was 16 (with a hiatus from 22 to 26), little of it has been consistent, programmed training. Started the bridge last year, jumped into PB1 right after that, saw decent results and am running it again. Still seeing results.

I’ve recently started titrating calories down and plan to lose a few inches (at 37 inches now at 5’10, 203 lbs) off the waist. I’m worried the extra volume in PB2 will cause too much fatigue as PB1 leaves me feeling pretty fatigued now. I could probably do a better job of managing fatigue (tend to overshoot RPE) and I live in NYC and do a lot of walking (about 2.5 miles a day) to/from work, gym, etc.

The longer term plan is to run another PB program into July, then pivot to a strength program. But I’m pretty torn between PB1 → Strength I vs. PB2 → Strength 2. What do?

I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the template choices you mentioned, but if you saw great results from PB I and like that style of training, I’d be hard-pressed to recommend another template. If you’re leaning more towards bodybuilding for a stint than pure strength development, I’d consider hypertrophy I- particularly with the fatigue concerns from overshooting. If you’re leaning more towards strength development, but want something new with lower stakes (from a fatigue management standpoint), I’d consider general S/C I.

Thanks Jordan,

So essentially you’re saying you don’t see anything wrong with running PB1 for the third time in a row rather than moving to PB2? Currently on week 6 of my second run through the program. I like that style of training and have equally prioritized strength and hypertrophy for the time being.

Yep! It’s pretty hard to make a change when things are rolling, you know?

Got it! Thanks a lot. My stupid brain tells me I’m “advanced enough” to move on to the II templates and that I’ll make progress at a faster rate running one of those. Might as well get as much mileage out of less work while I still can.
