COVID after effects

I’m sure you have seen reports of various lingering effects being reported from people who contracted COVID and now test negative.

What is the likelihood that there are many common viruses and bacterial infections that have effects on people well after they are “cured” of the illness? I’d assume these things very often get overlooked, misdiagnosed, or just labelled as “mysterious”.

I’m not trying to minimize COVID btw.

There are a number of viruses that commonly infect humans and remain “dormant” to some extent over time, and various physiologic stressors can precipitate re-emergence of symptoms – the typical example of this being VZV / shingles.

With that said, I think this ongoing viral infection theory is unlikely to explain such persistent symptoms, and I’d say there is even less of a chance they are related to undiagnosed bacterial infections.
