Could one of you fine gentleman explain, in a manner a layman can understand, why/how Creatine (as that found in GainzZz RX) helps regulate blood sugar/Glucose levels? I am a Type 2 Diabetic and have noticed in myself that creatine greatly reduces and stabilizes my daily readings. In an effort to understand why I have used my google-fu without much success. any suggestions or resources I should pursue?
Creatine supplementation may improve a transporter called GLUT-4’s ability to transport glucose from the blood to the muscle by increasing it’s (the transporter) presence on the surface of muscle cells. However, this remains to be clearly shown by data. Overall, my gestalt is that creatine does not have any significant effect on diabetes, but supplementing with it may co occur with other lifestyle changes that are beneficial.
1-" gestalt" Nice word. I had to look that one up.
2- “but supplementing with it may co occur with other lifestyle changes that are beneficial” that is the common response. I have been lifting for over a year prior to supplementation but maybe with supplementation came a renewed effort on my part. Anecdotally, when I stop taking creatine my sugars tend to average a little higher and spike more often. I find it interesting if nothing else.
So you see know reason for a diabetic non-athlete to take creatine?
