Deadlift Setup Question

Hi, I’ve been following the 5 step deadlift setup method and was wondering about Step 2 where you bend down to grab the bar.

Is this movement identical to the hip hinging as when you do romanian deadlifts? Or do you not worry about hinging at all?

We don’t explicitly coach an RDL-like hinge, though I have if someone really had issues setting their back in any sort of productive manner if they’re already at the bottom. In this scenario, it’s like a really slow tempo “RDL” to reach down and grab the bar.

For me personally, I set my back once I’m at the bottom, so I don’t do much RDL-like hinging to get there.

I see. Do you expect a stretch in your hamstrings once you’re setup to push the ground identical to the bottom position in the RDL?

I’m not sure I understand what you’re asking. The positions achieved between both styles should be the same though.
