I’ve been diagnosed with hyper tension after a trip to the doctor where I was recorded having a blood pressure of 156/90. The day before I was checked at work and had a very similar blood pressure. I’ve been put on 10mg lisinopril daily. I’ve found that this runs in our family, however I’ve never had a problem with high blood pressure since I started working at the prison. I’ve also had two separate ocurrences at the gym that may or may not be linked to said condition, and I’d like your advice as to how to proceed.
The first was a migraine that began with lifting and worsened throughout the session (which I managed to finish), starting from the base of my neck and wrapped to the front of my head, primarily on the right side and behind my eyes, and felt as if the mighty Brodin himself was using my frontal lobe as some kind of kettle ball in some crazy Russian workout. Complete hyperbole, but I’m just saying it freaking hurt. This is what prompted going to the doctor as it happened two days in a row, the second being at work when I had a confrontation with an inmate and my adrenaline shot.
The second occurrence happened yesterday on a training session, when I decided to power clean the bar I was using for rows because I was to lazy to take each weight off first (only 155). When I had the bar in the upright position, I got an intense head rush and actually blacked out for a second after racking the bar. This is not an exaggeration. I actually fell, managed to hit my head on the metal base of a piece of equipment (not horribly), and when I came to it honestly took a few seconds before I realized where I was or why my head was hurting. This, or anything like it, has never happened to me in any setting ever.
Before being blessed with your guy’s work, I’d be making concrete assumptions like some fool diagnosing himself off WebMD, but if I tell my doctor she’ll just say stop lifting. Is there a possible correlation between these two occurrences during training and my recent problem with my blood pressure? If so, how should I handle this with programming and lifting?
