Displaced Meniscus

Hey,

Over the last 10 or so years, I have occasionally had an issue with my knee locking in the bent position when doing activities such as kneeling down to tie my lace or sitting with my legs crossed. This is accompanied by quite severe pain. I can usually straighten it after a few seconds by trying different angles, and then the pain disappears.

This used to happen maybe once a year but has become significantly more frequent over the past few months (twice in the last week).

Given these symptoms, could this be indicative of a displaced meniscus and would you recommend seeking an MRI/surgery? Or is this something that can be fixed through physio?

Thanks for your help!

It could be. If it has been ongoing, persistent, and limiting to your quality of life over a decade, it would be reasonable to pursue diagnostic imaging and consulting with a clinician on this. I would not make the assumption/jump all the way to surgery without appropriate evaluation first.
