According to my orthopedic, I have the beginnings of Dupuytren’s contracture, including a small, somewhat tender lump in my left palm. Any advice or concerns regarding continuing to powerlift?
Not really any concerns, though I suspect your doc will say that lifting heavy weights would make it worse - though the data suggesting heavy gripping tasks are correlated to Dupuytren’s is very, very weak without a causal link being established.
In truth, it seems that the cause is mostly related to genetics, ethnicity, and sex. Many different treatments are available depending on the severity of the disease process including surgery, injections, and needle fasciotomy - none of which represent a contraindication to training provided your doctor gives you clearance, Clarence.
