Hi,

That could be a fine substitution, although just swapping those exercises alone may or may not be enough to help with your symptoms. It may also require a decrease in the weight as well, which can be achieved in a number of ways.

We have a general outline of how we approach managing pain here:

Thanks for the reply Austin ill try swapping exercises and read those articles

Hey! Sorry to hear about your elbow troubles. Swapping barbell rows for machine rows could be a good move for now. Machine rows tend to be a bit easier on the joints since they help stabilize the movement and reduce the strain on your elbows. Giving your elbows a break while still engaging your back muscles sounds like a wise idea. Just make sure you’re paying attention to your form on the machine too, to avoid any new issues. Once your elbows feel better, you can gradually reintroduce barbell rows, maybe with lighter weight to see how it goes. Keep listening to your body, and take care!

Would adding curls be helpful at all? I’ve heard they can help with elbow pain

There is nothing that universally helps everyone with a particular area of pain. You can experiment with adding curls as an example of the movement variation described in the articles, and see how you do with it.
