Faulty links to BBM via Google search

Hey there,

I regularly use google’s site search syntax (e.g. “site:forum.barbellmedicine.com …”) to find discussions in the BBM forums. It seems that since the new forum update this search method will often provide broken links. A few quick tests of mine have shown that whenever a result links to a thread in a sub-forum that doesn’t exist with that exact name anymore, the BBM forum will then produce a “Page Not Found” error.

Example:
The search “site:forum.barbellmedicine.com addressing pain” shows the following link as my first result:
https://forum.barbellmedicine.com/forums/training-q-a-with-dr-jordan-feigenbaum-and-dr-austin-baraki/83039-how-to-address-pain-with-new-exercise-variations
Opening this link works just fine. Probably because this sub-forum still exists under that exact name.

However, the third result from the same Google search links to the following:
https://forum.barbellmedicine.com/forums/pain-and-rehab-q-a-with-dr-derek-miles-and-dr-michael-ray/24531-addressing-pain-in-a-fast-paced-clinical-setting
Opening this link will result in an error page. I suspect it’s because the name/address of the new pain & rehab sub-forum is different from the name it had up until now.

Are those posts gone forever or is there a technical possibility to automatically re-direct those addresses to the current new ones or anything similar?
It would be very unfortunate if those search results aren’t accessible anymore.

Hey CeeKa,

I’m not sure. I have a few meetings today and will ask. I am hopeful there will be some workable solution for searching the forum, even if it’s not the same as what you used before. I’ll report back when I learn something.

While not very convenient, you can re-search for the title of your “missing” link once you’re on the forum.

For example, searching for “addressing pain in a fast paced clinical setting” on the forum itself reveals the original thread can be found at Addressing Pain in a Fast Paced, Clinical Setting

Thanks for the fast response.
I agree that there are workarounds and it’s good to know that those threads are still accessible. Using the Google search function is quite fast and I’m a sucker for convenience, that’s why I like using it. But I’ll survive either way.

Based on some meetings yesterday, I am not sure we can restore previous forum and sub-forum search. I’ll keep working on making the search stuff better on the forum to see what works best.
