Foot drop and training

Hi, I am a 42 year old male and I have had back pain on and off for about 12 years, it has always been on the right side of my low back approximately between my sacrum and L4 and across to my ilium.

10 days ago (Monday 12th March) I went to bed and woke at some stage during the night with pain deep in my left hip and all the way down my leg to my heel (no back pain).Every night since then my sleep has been disturbed and I have woke during the night either with pain running from my hip to my heel or just in my hip and tibialis anterior.

On Saturday 17th March I noticed that walking felt strange. Every time my left heel struck the ground, it felt like my foot just flopped down making a slight slapping sound. It seems to have improved slightly, but it is still there to some degree.

If I sit on a bench with my feet off the ground I can dorsflex my left foot, but I have less range of motion than I have on the right. However if I try to dorsiflex under load, e.g. walk or stand on my heels, my right leg is fine, but my left toes are the only part of my foot that leave the ground. I definitely have more dorsiflexion today than I did on Saturday, but it still feels strange, like there is a slight numbness in my tibialsis anterior.

I have trained 3 times since noticing the foot drop. No pain while training, just at night deep in my hip and in my tibialis anterior.

Basically my question is, is it ok to train?

I want to train, but am unsure if I could make matters worse.

Thanks.

If you are having motor weakness, you should get evaluated.
