Fractured humerus and supraspinatus tendinopathy

Hi doctors,

I’m new to lifting, I’ve been doing hypertrophy training for four months. I’ve found your work very helpful as I’m lifting due to OA in my knee following ACL reconstruction.

I now have a fractured humerus and supraspinatus tendinopathy - the injury happened three weeks ago but it was only diagnosed by ultrasound yesterday. In the meantime I’ve been lifting but avoiding anything that causes pain (horizontal and vertical pushing, DB curls). DLs, rows and machine curls have not caused pain.

However, the consultant radiologist who did the scan yesterday said I shouldn’t lift at all until it’s healed. Do you think this is correct advice or overly cautious?

If correct, do you have any advice for getting back into training after it has healed, esp in relation to overhead pressing.

Specific info about the injury: communited healing impacted fracture of the right greater tuberosity with slight depression, mild to moderate hypoechoic changes noted within the supraspinatus tendon.

Thanks for any help you can give,

Kirsty

Sorry to hear it. This is a bit more complex situation than we can handle here, and I would strongly recommend a consult with our rehab guys:

Ok, thank you for your reply.
