Grilled polultry/meat/fish and cancer risk

Hey, BBM Staff, how are you doing?

Today I found A LOT of articles on the internet regarding grilled meat can increase the risk of colon cancer. What do you think about it? I mean, I am asking because I love grilled chicken breast. I eat it on a daily basis, something like 250g spreaded in 2 meals with some rice and olive oil (I know, it’s the BRO MEAL), but I like it. What should I do? Should I try to eat it boiled in somedays? Is it okay to continue eating it grilled like how I did by now? Thank you for your answer!

Give this article a read: The Science of Red Meat and Health | Barbell Medicine

Should give a bit more perspective here

Hi, Jordan! Thank you for your answer. I red the article, but I don’t think I understood very well what is discussed there. The articles says more about the red meat. I eat red meat maybe a serving every 2-3 weeks when I feel I want to. The articles is still available for the chicken breast? Is the process of grilling the chicken breast considered to result in “processed meat”? If yes, what should I do? Should I alternate the protein intake from chicken breast and another source of protein (vegetal; soy, for example)? Or can I eat the chicken breast daily like how I did by now?

The specifics of cooking meat were discussed with respect to the following two compounds:

  1. Heterocyclic amines (HCA) – formed when amino acids in meat react with high temperatures.
  2. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) – smoke contains PAHs that adhere to surface of meat during cooking The discussion of what it means to be processed applies to all meats, but grilling isn’t one of those criteria.

I don’t think you need to alternate your protein intake, no.

Ok, thank you for your fast answer! Now it makes sense. Have an awesome day!
