Heart issues - right bundle branch block

Hi all,

a quick one here - is a branch block, either a left or a right one (in my case, the right one) a counter-indication for resistance training?

Aside from low(er) resting heart rate of about 50-ish, as confirmed by multiple ECGs over the years and at my last private pilots medical exam, I feel no other symptoms.

During the last week or two, as the winter came around and as I significantly increased my calorie intake, I started feeling so sluggish that I am unable to complete my workouts.

Surely, an 85kgx5x3 squat for a 6’3 200lb guy should not present a problem? :frowning:

Thanks!

Alex,

Not really a quick question, as much of the necessary diagnostic information is missing and left or right bundle branch blocks do not have the same prognosis.

In your case, a right bundle branch can have many causes that make it impossible to have a firm opinion on management without additional info (and responsibility).

The lower HR (at the reported level) isn’t concerning, nor should it be symptomatic. The sluggish feeling doesn’t necessarily mean anything to me and could just as easily (more likely) be due to circadian rhythms, altered sleep patterns, and/or subjectivity in assessment changes.

In any event, my recommendation is that if you have clearance from your physician to train- you can train. Most people with RBB without apparent cardiovascular disease do just fine and don’t require special monitoring. Provided you fit into that category, I don’t think there’s much to worry about here.

Thank you Jordan, much appreciated! :sunglasses:
