Racing heart during regular Strength Training

Hey there AB and JF

So yesterday at the gym, after finishing my first exercise and putting the plates away, I noticed that my heart rate was really high and my heart also beat super hard to the point where I could see it beating through my shirt. My breathing rate was very low and calm, but I had this general feeling of being unwell. I measured my heart rate by counting the beats for 20 seconds, which was really hard due to the speed, but I got that it was >190bpm. After sitting for a minute or two it went away from one second to the other, and my heart rate dropped to ~90bpm. I finished the session without issue, although I was a bit weak. I’m 19 know of, train 6 days a week and am generally healthy. I don’t consume any drugs except for caffeine, taking around 100mgs before this session. I wasn’t really stressed or had a high workload otherwise, it was otherwise just a normal day.

Should I not worry about this since it was a one time occurrence and I was able to do the other exercises without issue? Thanks

Hey there,

I understand where you’re coming from with this question, but unfortunately I can’t tell people via this forum to disregard symptoms without evaluating them myself as their physician. I’m not necessarily saying this is something serious, just that it’s a tricky position to be in via the internet. If it recurs or is concerning to you, the next steps would involve determining some form of heart rhythm monitoring to see what exactly is happening during these episodes.
