Hey everyone. I have been on a cut trying to get myself back on track. I listened to some bad advice and while that advice drove gains it turned out to increase me to a size of being unhealthy. I have been cutting calories but the issue I have been running into is hitting my protein numbers. What does everyone do for snacks to help hit there numbers?
Snacking begets snacking. For me anyway, starts with beef jerky ends a week later with snickers bars.
Just down a whey+water shake with your meals. Thats an extra 72-108g of protein a day between four to six meals a day. Just throw a scoop in a small shaker cup and take it with you.
There’s this snack I like called “fit crunch” that tastes like Cheetos but is mostly whey protein. Like 16g of protein in a 100 calorie bag. I got mine at Costco.
Also I added lentils and rice to my lunch. Lentils have a lot of protein and when paired with rice form a complete amino acid profile. Also they pack a lot of fiber which is also helpful.
I track loosely in my head so try to keep it simple and consistent. In the past I would eat smaller meals and large snacks with protein all over the place but over time found what works best for me is to get protein at meals which end up being something like 4x50g or 5x40g. If cutting, my actual snack has to be just a single fruit serving or bunch of veggies just to buy a couple of hours until the next meal.
I’ll make a 50g meal from a large shake. If you make shakes with whey you might bump it up by 1/2 scoop without noticing. I also do the whey plus water but add some orange gatorade powder to make it more palatable. I’ll follow lunch and dinner with a cup of plain Fage yogurt (20g) or Kefir cup (20g) which I sweeten myself. I find that easier and more enjoyable than just double meat. Also better if you need to limit fat/carbs. If I’m trying to maintain or gain weight, then I’ll add in more carbs and fats throughout the day but otherwise keep the same protein framework.
If I’m out, I’ll 1.5x or 2x the meat in a meal, sometimes I’ll drink milk if I’m not drinking. On the road it’s protein bars or bottled shake like Core Power.
Those fit crunch puffs look good, nice to see more portable savory options out there!
