Hernia and what next.

Hi BBM team,

I have a question of how I should approach my last two weeks of training before my hernia op and how to approach training post op.

I have been training for about 6 years and since gyms reopened about 16 weeks ago in the uk I have done 8 weeks of a linear style of training to get back into training and I have now just finished your 8 weeks bridge program.

I have just been given a date for a hernia op that is in my belly button causes no pain and is very small, how would you suggest I finish my training before the op in 2 weeks?

I was thinking maybe testing my maxes to see where my strength is at or just doing two weeks of hypertrophy 1 ? Or anything else you may advise?

my main goal is strength I own the strength 1 template hypertrophy 1 and powerbuilding 1 template. - have run all these programs multiply times with great success my main goal is strength.

post op I have been told the typical no training for at least 6 weeks but would like to know how you’d advice someone ?

As for my hernia it’s very small and may not even need a mesh it’s just something I wanted to get sorted sooner than later to hopefully stop it from getting larger and eventually cause discomfort or pain.

My age is 28 and I weigh 14st and have a 32” waist if this means anything I don’t really know just thought I’d mention it.

look forward to your advice.

I wouldn’t test your max, no. I would just finish the template you’re doing/continue your training until it’s time for the procedure.

The post-op advice is 100% made-up, though we can’t give you specific advice.

We did a video on inguinal hernias, which might be helpful here:

Thanks Jordan,

I honestly forgot all about that video and just seen another with Alan Thrall about his experience with his hernia.

I think I will just rest a few days after the op and jump back into training but just train with weights that I don’t feel any discomfort and increase the weights slowly or quickly over time depending on how I feel.

Thanks again.
