High fat diet and fibre levels.

Hi Jordan,

Thanks for the excellent podcast and article on red meat consumption. Also, thanks for introducing me to Alan F, his podcasts have really cut through some of the dietary BS I’d bought into.

Alan spoke a little about the high fat Mediterranean diet, I really enjoy this style of eating (I love olive oil, nuts and fatty fish). My daily calorie intake is about 3500 (a slight deificit for me at 6"2’ and 98kg), today this came from 170 grams of fat (of which, 28 grams was saturated), 330g of carbs and about 200g of protein. This is pretty representative.

I’ve see you talk about high fat diets being suboptimal for strength training, is this a view you still hold and would you recommend that I bias my diet to towards more carbs?

My other question is in regards to my fibre intake, after fixing my diet I now average between 55-60g of fibre a day. This is from oats in the morning, wholemeal bread for lunch, nuts, and 10 serves of fruit and veg. Do you think this is too high (it doesn’t cause me GI problems)? If so, should I get rid of some of the veg? Or just change the wholegrain stuff to more processed carbs (like white bread)?

Thanks,
Scott

Scott,

I think high fat diets are likely suboptimal for strength training when they’re coupled with a low carbohydrate diet. Sounds like that does not describe your situation

I think this fiber intake is fine as well.
