I have been skipping rope as a way to do my HIIT but it burns out my forearms. so when I go to do pull ups I’m not as effective as I would want to be at pulling. I don’t have no prowler or any room to do sprints at my gym. any ideas on how to do HIIT on the treadmill? I’ve attempted this once but when I jump off track to rest it decreases its speed. I’m assuming this is to prevent injury when you jump back on. but it messes up the whole flow of the training. I’m running for 20 seconds but it takes just as long to get back to a speed where I’m going all out. I was thinking I would slow down the speed and continue running and than turn up the speed as I’m nearing the end of my rest time. by then I’ll be at full gallop lol. any thoughts?
Does your gym not have a bike, rower or elliptical? Jumping rope and running are both pretty terrible HIIT options as they’ll both interfere with your lifts (fatigue).
mind elaborating on that. also, I’m running on days of active recovery. the template states that I should sprint. we have bikes and ellipticals, no rowers though.
I think that sprint may be strictly defined as running but you can sprint on all of those other pieces of equipment and they are likely to cause less interference. I think that is the intention on most of the templates except the GPP Endurance. May be worth mentioning which template you’re doing.
its the 3 day hypertrophy temp.
true, makes sense. I could sprint on the bikes. but why is running more fatiguing than say the bikes?
Running is higher impact activity.
and that means what exactly? sorry for the ignorance.
You have your whole weight hitting the floor on every step, that puts a lot more stress on your ankles and knees.
I used to sprint hills for HIIT. It killed my recovery. Even though the incline should lessen the impact, just running itself was too much stress to recover from and stay on a lifting schedule for me.
The bike works much better IMO.
