To help get the concept of RPE (the way you teach it) further cemented into me, I’d like to see a few examples of you warming up to your work sets, perhaps one with a top single followed by back-off sets and another with a multiple-rep set. Perhaps some training footage or an excerpt from your logs? The more examples, the better.
I uploaded my post then realised that I had to elaborate further, but couldn’t due to how the forums work. Sorry about that.
What I really want to know, is what were you thinking when you did those deficit deadlifts at 495, 565 and subsequently settling at 600 for the single @8? How did you assess how much of an increase to take and when to call it an @8? Why 600 and not 585 or 605? Can I assume that the difference in stimulus between 585 and 605 isn’t significant enough to matter, other than an increase from last session’s weights?
Apologies for the drawn-out questions. I hope you can see the gist of what I’m trying to understand.
This is primarily a matter of assessing bar speed, prior experience, and recognizing that +/- 5 lbs (and likely more) does not make a significant difference in the long run.
Regarding “an increase from last session’s weights”: if you haven’t listened to podcast episode 129, it’d be worthwhile.
