How to Convince Elderly Parents to Lift and Eat More Protein?

Hello,

I was wondering what would be the best way to get my mom and dad (both 74) to start lifting weights and eating more protein, ideally 0.8g per lb. of LBM? My mom and dad are both sedentary with the exception of walking around the neighborhood (20 min, maybe). My dad is obese (5’7 ~220 lb) and I have noticed cognitive issues starting in the past year and a half or so. Would weight loss at his age be advised or would it be better for him to maintain? I would like them to remain independent for as long as possible. Also, should they be doing any kind of cardio beyond walking?

Thanks for the resources, have some people nearby who have been on my mind for similar reasons.
Austin, do you guys recommend a one-time apoB test to determine concordance with LDL?

If a person is able to easily / cheaply obtain the ApoB measurement, it would be my preferred metric to follow over time (although a standard lipid panel still has utility for triglyceride measurements). If not, then a one-time for concordance with non-HDL-c would be fine.
