Improve “mobility” for high kicks

I’ve seen your article about stretching and flexibility but just had a question. I understand that kickboxing isn’t your guys “thing” but wondered if y’all had some insight on it. My question is, how would one be able to kick higher besides just practicing the high kicks? Would you not recommend static stretching? Or would you recommend something else? I know my technique is correct as I have a coach. Just seeems to be more of a “can’t get my leg that high” problem. Thanks.

I would not recommend static stretching, though I’m aware that many people do them.

Stretching is specific to how it’s trained, so dynamic movements through that ROM with similar joint positions would be the focused work here.

I would not do any martial arts movements with weighted appendages. Anything where you’re actively moving is dynamic. For high kick improvement, these movements should be similar to the positions of the lower limb joints you’re adopting during a high kick. High knee marches w and w/o leg kicks, hurdles, a marches, etc.

If I’m completely honest, I would spend more time practicing kickboxing - which includes high kick exposure- than spending any specific time doing these drills.
