In Need of Suggestions for Active Recovery/Light Cardio for Days Off

I’ve been powerlifting for about a year and a half and put on a decent amount of weight over time (I am 6’3" and went from 155lbs in 2016 to 246lbs today). I used to run cross country and play golf almost daily back when I was in highschool and 155lbs. Now I work from home as a software developer and powerlift, so my life can be pretty sedentary. I’m getting strong but at this point it’s tough for me to carry things long distances, and can even get winded if I have to walk too far (Especially in this Texas heat.)

Recently my Resting Heart Rate has seen a steady climb from around 65 to almost up to 80 and my blood pressure has had some slight increases as well, though still nothing to worry about.

My question is I only train 4 days a week so I have some extra time to do some conditioning/active recovery. I want to find something that will help me make sure I stay in better shape but also doesn’t impact my training too much if possible. I’ve seen some powerlifters biking/finding places to swim. Is this something you’d recommend or are there better options in your eyes?

Hi YN! We’d have no concerns with walking, biking, swimming, rowing, golfing, etc. Conditioning is something that you will adapt to, and it shouldn’t affect your recovery.

We do suggest that everyone, powerlifters included, hit the Daily Activity Guidelines. Where should my priorities be to improve my health?
