Increase calorie intake on days I lift?

I’m coming from the endurance world, where I’ve been recording all my meals in MyFitnessPal, but also subtracting calories when I perform workouts. When I do a big trail run and burn 1000 calories (per my Garmin with HR monitor strap), I’ll give myself that extra 1000 (give or take) to eat that day. On days I don’t work out, I stick with my base (around 2200).

Should I do this now that I’m on the Novice Linear Progression? It seems tough to calculate calorie expenditure for a lifting session, but I’ve been giving myself more calories for workouts for years, so it’s hard to get out of this.

Based on To Be a Beast, I’ve bumped my daily calories up to around 2300 (165p/300c/60f, roughly). On days I lift, should I eat some more, or stick to the same calories/macros every single day, regardless of expenditure?

Your cal count is not accurate so I would not use that to modulate calories in any manner. I would eat more carbs and fats, however, to produce a weight gain.

So you’re not a believer in calculating calorie expenditure for physical activity, if I’m reading your response correctly.

Eat more carbs and fats in general, or eat more carbs and fats on workout days?

Basically, it’s very hard for me to get around the sense that “I worked hard today, my body expended more energy, food is energy, therefore I need more food”. To me, either the recommendations on To Be a Beast are higher than necessary on non-workout days, or lower than necessary on workout days. I’m just wondering if I eat the same macros every single day, regarding of activity, or continue to eat more if I work more.

Thanks for your insight.

There is nothing to believe in, as accelerometer data and wearable tech have been shown to be extremely inaccurate.

To your second statement, eat more carbs and fats in general.

You are underweight and so I want you to gain weight please.
