Insulin Resistance

What is insulin Resistance and how is it corrected?

Here is a good overview of the topic:

Hi Dr. Baraki,

At 220lbs, 5’5” height, and 46” waist, I definitely need to lose weight. Your team helped my oldest son when he had a shoulder injury and he steered me toward your website. Both of my thirty something sons are fitness and strength junkies.

I’ve experienced a lot of health challenges in recent years some very serious… too much to detail in a message. But I have battled my weight my entire life. I am 60 years old. My son thinks you, Dr. Baraki, would be the person I should contact.

Can you give me an idea of how you work with clients remotely? My ultimate goal is to reach a point where I can work on strength training. I’ve watched many of your videos and agree that I need to get my weight to a healthy place before working on strength training.

The article you sent me to on insulin resistance had the information I was seeking.

Thank you!

Hi,

I’m glad the article was helpful and am glad you are motivated to improve your health.

However, you suggest that “I need to get my weight to a healthy place before working on strength training”. I wouldn’t agree with this. Unless there is some other major medical issue preventing you from engaging in strength training (and/or exercise in general), these would ideally be simultaneous things. In other words, the strength training should be part of any weight management plan. Our team includes coaches for exercise and nutrition, dieticians, and physicians like myself who can help guide the way.

If you have multiple serious medical issues, I hope you have a good primary care doctor helping manage those issues. If you have checked out any of our content on weight management, you will also have heard us discuss things like the role for medications here as well, which may be worth discussing with your prescribing doctor as well.
