Iron Man

Greetings!
I was recently diagnosed with hemochromatosis.
(which, incidentally was the cause of my low testosterone and low bone density that I posted about in another thread. Just mentioning this because it underlines what you guys said in yiyr podcast about finding the CAUSE.)

My doc didn’t have any specific recommendations about diet other than no iron or vitamin c supplements and limit alcohol. Anyway, I have now read everything ranging from dietary iron doesn’t contribute to this to don’t eat red meat or cook in cast iron pan.

Any nutrition recommendations you would make based on this condition, or can I just stick with my normal “eat enough calories and protein for a 200 lb 47 year old barbell training guy plan?”

I can’t really answer this here given the medical condition and you not being my patient. I would push for a referral to a dietician familiar with the condition.

Thanks Jordan I will do so. I guess I wasn’t thinking this was a “medical” question, sorry.
Do you find generally that the guidelines in uptodate are sound? I have a subscription to it.

In our highly litigious society, I cannot really say if I would trust UpToDate guidelines on a condition that I have not personally evaluated.

Sorry man. I would 100% recommend you get that referral.

I understand.
Back in my 20’s I completed my first year of law school, only to realize I would have to be an attorney when I finished…:hushed::slight_smile:
Thanks again!

Well, it wouldn’t have mattered anyway. I had an extensive follow up with GI and I don’t have hemochromatosis, duh, back to the drawing board!

The good news is that everything under the sun was normal other than having some fat in my liver. I already knew about that and there is less than before.
