Judgment of squat depth compromised when tired

I’ve been lifting for a couple of years and I lift alone in my garage. One issue that I’ve been struggling with is consistent squat depth of heavy sets when I get tired.

For example, if I do 1@8 and then 4@8 x 3 sets, my squat depth of the very last set will be erratic, very often 1-2" too high, even though it really feels deep while I am squatting and the RPE still feels like an 8.

I’m already doing paused squats, pin squats and tempo squats (in Bridge 1). Their depths are fine.

  1. Is this a common problem?

  2. Are there strategies to overcome this?

You simply have to adjust for this in your mind and force yourself to do it.

One trick I’ve used with folks is to cue them to “make each rep feel deeper than the last” when they’re under fatigue.

Thanks Doc!
