Learning Medicine

Hey guys, sorry if this is off topic but i was wondering how you would recommend a prospective medical practitioner (in undergrad atm), amass knowledge and make sure its from reliable sources. Obviously a degree in medicine allows you to weed out nonsense but i was wondering how i could gain similar critical thinking skills if i were to become a physio for example. Textbooks for general knowledge? then keeping up on studies? any thoughts are appreciated, thanks.

“Amassing knowledge” takes a very long time, and if you’re currently in undergrad you probably ought to focus on learning the basic sciences as well as you can. If you’re interested / able in doing some research while in undergrad under a mentor, you would learn quite a lot from that as well.

Unfortunately not as much as we’d like, but it helps.

As I mentioned above - learn the basic sciences well, do some science if you can, read as much as possible (especially from the primary literature in your fields of interest - sometimes you can get good information if you follow leaders in these fields on twitter, as there is an active academic community there), and listen to all the “You Are Not So Smart” podcasts.

Textbooks for general knowledge?

This depends on your learning style. I wasn’t much of a textbook-reader in college or med school, but used them more for reference when needed.

Thanks for the honest response and all the eye opening videos
