Lifting consequences

My significant other lifted on Saturday 1/12/19 (back squat, bench press, and dead lift) with no issues and had none on Monday with the back squat and dead lift. However on Monday 1/14/16 he had a sharp stomach muscle pain when lying down for the bench press and when lifting the weight initially off the J hooks. He didn’t think to palpate the stomach until Monday night when he found a lump about 2 inches above his belly button, about the size of a large malted milk ball. Naturally his first thought was hernia. It seems better and smaller tonight (Wednesday). Also, tonight he can do a sit-up motion without pain, unlike Monday. He has been lifting about 1 1/2 years and this is the first time he has experienced anything like this. He is 67 and not overweight. Do you have any thoughts or recommendations? Thanks!

Not sure what this is without examining it. If it’s concerning and/or not resolving, I’d get it looked at.

Impossible to say without an exam, but sounds like an epigastric hernia .
