Any new updates on training post appendectomy? I saw a post where Austin said if it were him he’d wait a week and then return to light exercise. I’m currently typing this in the hospital waiting for my CT to confirm appendicitis and then I’m assuming surgery is gonna be inevitable. Mostly trying not to worry about dying from complications of the surgery but barring that my biggest concern is lifting afterwards.
I don’t have anything else to say/add.
Thank you for your response. You got back to me before they even called me back for my scan.
I’m sorry but I’m still feeling a little lost. Would you still return to the gym after a week if it were you? And would the light workouts need to be machines or would you start with light compound movements?
Ishmael, unfortunately we can’t tell you what types of exercise you should do/are clear to do from here without talking to you and learning more. A consultation may be beneficial in this regard.
That said, Dr. Baraki’s comment indicates that what he would do is to wait ~ a week and return to light exercise. He did not stipulate anything about machines, though machines are a perfectly viable way to exercise if you like them, they’re available to you, and they support your goals and needs. He would do that and/or free weight exercises based on his programming and tolerance of the exercises at the time.
Little update.
I took 9 days off of the gym. Once I got back into it I started with full-body training with extremely conservative loads but was just glad to be back at it. I did 4 sessions my first week and repeated the same general program the following week with slightly less conservative loads and a little more volume.
I had my post-op checkup today, 3 weeks post surgery, and was given the all clear to remove restrictions.
I’m going to pick one of the BBM templates and start tomorrow, likely with conservative loads week 1.
The race to out-Squat Jordan’s Bench is back on the menu boys.
