Appendicitis surgery and getting back on track

Hello Jordan / Austin,

I went under a laparoscopic appendicitis surgery on April 23rd. Till the surgery I had been following Powerlifting 2 programme. My doctor said I can start working out again after 3 weeks but just in case I am planning to make it 4 weeks. Do you think that would be enough and during these weeks should I give an absolute rest or do some physical activity? Right now I am only going out on a walk on daily basis.

Kind regards,

I think that would be plenty.

And no, you do not need absolute rest/immobilization for a month after such a laparoscopic surgery. Getting back to routine daily activities, walking, etc., should be fine.

Hello Austin,

Thanks for your response. By saying physical activity I actually meant arm/shoulder/back workout etc. Should I wait for couple of weeks to start basic workouts ?

Hi,

My interpretation of your original post was that the surgeon recommended waiting 3 weeks to train, and you had planned to wait 4 weeks. That should be more than enough, but I cannot give you individual / specific recommendations via this forum about specific types or intensity of physical activity in the shorter term post-op.

After an uncomplicated minimally invasive procedure like this, most people can start ramping up the amount of walking they’re doing by the end of the first week, and I’ve seen lots of folks gradually reintroduce bodyweight movements then low-load strength training in the weeks after that. We just can’t assume anything or apply any of this advice to you, if we are not your doctor.

Hey,

I got the point, thank you so much.
