Recovery from Laparoscopic Surgery

Hi there. Hoping someone may have some experience in strength athletes recovering from laparoscopic surgery (specifically for endometriosis). My OB informed me I would only need a week off of work and that I could resume normal day to day functions afterwards.

When it comes to my powerlifting training I am a bit apprehensive to ask her specifically, due to the stigma around strength training often found in the medical field.

Has anyone assisted in athletes recovering from this surgery? I understand complications vary and each situation will be different but hoping to hear any sort of general feedback or advice.

My main concerns center around bracing and belt use (which I imagine will be fairly obsolete due to the incisions for a while).

Thanks so much in advance for your time on this matter!

We get these questions frequently on the forum and are unfortunately not able to give individuals specific advice. In addition, we do not have direct evidence on this matter to guide recommendations either.

Once you are cleared to return to normal activities, I would resume training but start substantially lighter than you were training with pre-operatively. “Start low and go slow”, as they say, and I agree with your decision to not use a belt for while.
