Hi Austin,
Firstly just to say, i’ve found your content on Alans channel a absolute goldmine so thanks for that.
My main question is what is your understanding of elevated liver enzymes being connected to exercise?
Mine are slightly elevated after two separate tests. Well, just ALT actually (56, doc suggested cutting creatine then a month later retested at 77).
My GP didnt have any clue on the matter but i have seen some evidence of a connection online.
I would really appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks,
Shaun. Lifetime drug free. Age 34, 95kg, 5ft6, 600kg total, lifting properly for 2 years. Creatine and Whey, that is all!
Hard training, which is almost certainly powerlifting in the context of the medical community, tends to elevate live function tests for up to 7 days. The current recommendation is to ignore these until they’re > 3x the upper limit of normal in a person who is training and to also order a GGT, which is another lab test that can suss out whether the AST/ALT elevations are due to skeletal muscle mitochondria breakdown or actual liver pathology.
Thank you very much for clarifying. Yes i’m due another blood test and my GP has also booked me in for an ultra sound. I train appropriately hard.
I apologise, i inadvertently posted this question twice and both yourself and Austin have replied to separate threads (didnt think the first one worked!).
