Logic behind variations?

Hi Jordan/Austin.

Apologies if there is already an article or an answered question for this one, I haven’t found anything in my search. What’s the reasoning behind all the variations such as the 303 squat, paused bench press etc? Also, what’s the reason for the variation on reps such as 4’s and 7’s? I’m aware of the need for increased intensity sometimes however I thought these would just be on the main lifts. Obviously the paused bench would be lighter than the touch and go bench but could the touch and go bench not just be regulated through a lighter load? My only thought for this would be for sport specific practice therefore would it be necessary for a non competitive lifter?
