Low HDL

Whats up BBM?

Quick question about recent lipid panel. My LDL was 102 but my HDL was only 33. Last check I had was many years ago and LDL was 110 and HDL was 43, so both have gone down by about the same amount. According to the AHA risk calculators, I have a low cardiovascular risk and Statins are not recommended at this time. Ran this by some of the Docs I work with and they all agree with that. Want to get as many educated opinions on this as possible so my questions are: How worried should someone be about this low HDL right now? Is there anything that the evidence suggests one could/sould do to address it?

Other things that may be relevant:

Age: 35
Height: 5’8"
Waist: 35"
Weight: ~ 197lbs

Trigs:74
Total Chol: 144

Barbell train 4xwk. Just restarted LISS. Did a meet a couple of weeks ago and it got dropped during the prep due to time constraints and priorities at that time. eating around 2200 cal daily and only ~10% from sat fat. In the process of losing a little bit of body weight as I’d like my waist to be down closer to 34" now that my meet is over. I’m interested in your opinions as, in addition to your medical training, I’m sure you guys have a better understanding on exactly what type of exercise and diet interventions could be helpful, if any.

Thanks for everything!

Hey – this is a good question.

I’m not sure there’s a whole lot I’d do here in terms of interventions beyond what you’ve already discussed. I agree with incorporating conditioning alongside your strength training, I agree with the dietary setup and trying to keep your waist circumference down, and I’d aim to hit our standard fiber recommendations of 30-35 g per day, ideally from food sources.

I wouldn’t recommend any medications for this situation.

Copy that. Thanks Austin
