Hi,
You mentioned in The Bridged that when you compare the above conditioning method, even though in short term HIIT prodeces the same cardiovascular adaptation as LSD (VO2 max), on the long term things are different. Would you like to expand on that ?
Also, what do you thing of Push Press for developing explosion/power in the upper body? In a past podcast Glenn Pendlay said that Push Presses are the Power Cleans of the upper body and every athlet should do them but I could not find any study investigating the Push Press.
I don’t think you can develop conditioning with HIIT alone unless you’re testing your conditioning via HIIT. In other words, to fully develop conditioning you need both and it may not be that HIIT is any better than LSD in a resistance training population (as resistance training is very anaerobic).
I don’t think push presses are uniquely good at developing power in the upper body. They aren’t a bad exercise in the right context, of course. I think Pendlay overstated his opinion.
I read more and more and experimented on my clients. I do think that HIIT is useful, but it tends to work better with an aerobic base and some aerobic training to optimize conditioning- if that’s a goal.
