Macros For Novice Linear Progression

Dr. Feigenbaum,

I’ve been reading the site and listening to your podcast for the last 3 months or so. Thank you for putting out such quality material and information. So, after about 6 months of lifting on and off, I have finally teamed up with a coach and have started the SS linear progression. My question(s) are should I be following the TBAB guidelines for a recomp or fat loss? My info:

5’11"
255 lbs
41" waist
28% b/f (caliper reading)
27 y/o with a sedentary desk job

After 1 week on the program my lifts were
Squat - 105 kg 3 x 5
Press - 45 kg 3 x 5
Bench - 70 kg 3 x 5
Deadlift - 110 kg 1 x 5

I have been tracking macros on myfitnesspal for about the past 5 months while trying to follow Bigger Leaner Stronger, but was inconsistent, and at times felt like I may have been eating too little (2100 cals/day). Also,I have had some training experience before, albeit close to 10 years ago playing three sports in HS, and back then I weighed about 205 lbs. The weight gain has been a result of undergrad, law school, and working at a desk (coupled with bad diet, drinking, and lack of training). I would appreciate any recommendations you may have. Again, thanks to you and Dr. Baraki, I hope to run this linear progression, keep abreast with the quality information you both provide, and end up much stronger (and hopefully leaner) heading into an advanced novice/intermediate stage.

Cheers.

I would do fat loss macros, but they may be too high compared to what you were previously eating at 2100 calories per day- which are also FINE. I wouldn’t worry about being too low on non protein calories at this time.

Got it. Thanks for the help!
