Hello docs,
Have you ever had a client with terrible mobility and how do you fix that? For example,on deadlifts the bar has a specific amount of distance from the floor which depents on the wieghts’ height. The lower the distance bar-floor, the more difficult to keep good form. How can someone lower this distance and keep good form(if it is not a technique issue) and at which height we determine that you dont have the mobility for a deadlift? The same applies with other exercises like squats etc.To generalize you never speak about mobility but if it is a matter of mobility how do you fix it?
Thank you
Mobility is rarely a problem in the deadlift if you know how to coach it … BUT If we come across someone who truly cannot reach the bar or set their back sufficiently from the floor, we might have them use a low rack pull and work their way back down to the floor over time.
In the squat, depth improves with more practice squatting (and weight loss, for the obese). Getting the bar in the right position was discussed in Paul Horn’s video on the SS website.
With that said, you are probably significantly overestimating the prevalence of “mobility issues” that need fancy workarounds besides just doing the lifts.
Thank you doc
