I have sleep apnea and I have been consistently using my cpap but I still wake up exhausted and have brain fog. I recently had a sleep study done with all the electrodes everywhere. The sleep doctor prescribed higher air pressure and 200mg of modafinil. I’m not big on taking medication, is there any concerns I should be aware of with this medication. I think I may be hyper sensitive to medicines. My doctor once prescribed be a steroid for allergies and my HR was elevated and it didn’t go so well. Thanks
Hi there,
If you would feel more comfortable starting at a lower dose of 100 mg that would be reasonable to see how you do before increasing to 200 mg. I would also point out that there is no such thing as a generalized “hypersensitivity to medicines”. Individuals have individual responses to individual medicines, and there may be significant nocebo components that can augment the perception/experience of side effects.
I would also follow up with your sleep doctor to review the data from your CPAP machine to assess how effective your treatment settings have been so far, and whether you’re still experiencing significant breathing issues at night. There are other things your primary care doctor can look into in order to evaluate your fatigue as well (if they haven’t already).
