Muscle vs body fat when Strength Training

I am 58 yrs old, 5–2", 165lbs. Started SS 8 weeks ago training two days each week and in LP for squat, bench press & deadlift but plateaued on Overhead Press at 95lbs. I am squatting bodyweight, deadlifting 1.36x bodyweight and bench pressing 0.9x body weight.

Measured body fat at 29.9% using DEXA scan prior to SS training.

For the past 6 weeks I’ve been measuring my body weight and body fat using the scale at the gym. My weight has fluctuated ± 2lbs and body fat has held around 29-29.2%.

What articles or suggestions on diet and nutrition should I read that would allow me to continue to build strength while reducing my body fat to around 15%?

Hey Malabar,

Welcome to the forum and congrats on starting training.

That all being said, I don’t think that measuring your body fat weekly is necessary (or accurate enough) to guide management, i.e. what you should do training and nutrition wise. I would much rather you use your waist circumference instead.

As far as articles for diet, I’d start here:
