MyPlate vs. Template Calories + Alcohol

When I log my nutrition via Macros in the template it can sometimes vary quite a bit relative to what MyPlate says.

I’m not quite sure of the best way to reconcile the numbers. MyPlate always has more calories than the Template. For example: Yesterday, there was a 500 cal difference between the two.

This seems to be exacerbated on the few days I drink alcohol. MyPlate seems to generally count those as calories without macros. How should I proceed?

It doesn’t actually matter which one is correct, just choose one and stick with it. You should count calories from alchohol.

I count them, but they don’t seem to be reflected in the same way in the templates.

Are you referring to the BBM templates? I’m not sure what reference we’re talking about here.

@LeahBBM Yes, the BBM templates. I’m running Hypertrophy I currently.

For example, yesterday I had 42g Fat, 199 Carbs, 216 Fat. MyPlate ends up at 2568 Calories and Hypertrophy 1 Nutrition Log says 2038.
7/22 I had 24g Fat, 149 Carbs and 241 Fat + 2 oz Tequilla. MyPlate 1818, Hyp 1 says 1776.

It seems like I should kill the calories formula in the template on the days that are significantly different and just enter the MyPlate numbers.

Most days they vary so slightly (less than 30 calories) that it doesn’t seem to matter, but 500 calories caught my attention. Or, maybe it doesn’t matter. But having accurate, consistent data seems worthwhile.

If you are drinking alcohol these calories would not be reflected in the templates. 1g of alcohol has ~7cals I think? which would be missed in the template which just records protein (4 cals), carbs (4 cals) and fat (9 cals).
You could either just use the calorie number from your app if that accounts for the alcohol when you are drinking or log the extra calories as macros. I use my fitness pal and can normally find a IIFYM equivalent someone will have created that counts the extra calories as carbs or fat. For example I might record a pint of beer as having 50g carbs so that it takes up 200 cals when I add up my macros.

@MJones Seems like a reasonable way to handle it.
