NDTFP on Diet. Start over?

Here is a hypothetical case: Joe is 5’10 at 180 lbs, and has been doing SSLP for 6 months now, with every rep being a grind. His weight 6 months ago was 165 lbs. Only a 15-lb gain in six months is enough to reflect that he is not doing the program and he is stuck on almost all lifts after multiple resets. A close examination of his food log shows that the daily calorie intake is just about 2900. Assuming that he did not have any issues with forms and techniques, besides beating himself up for messing up eating right, should he reset again, incorporating advanced novice routines like backoff sets, with significantly increased daily calories, and give LP another go? If so, how much should he reset by this time and when should he move out of the novice land?

This is a non realistic situation for many reasons, but the big one is SSLP only lasts 6 months if you’re not doing the program correctly or consistently. Weight gain isn’t going to make it work better- you’re ready for intermediate programming

Thanks Jordan! Just wanted to confirm that my reading comprehension is right: you’re saying 6 months is too long for a correctly executed LP?

It’s going to be exceedingly rare to run it that long without excessive resets, “running it out”, or other tricks used to wring it out as long as possible, rather than moving on when appropriate.

Thanks, Austin! Joe is an idiot. Don’t be like Joe.
