I am now reading : “Lifespan - why we age and why we don’t have to” , written by David Sinclair , and he talks about that NMN (Nicotinamide mononucleotide) and resveratrol can increase NAD levels , which futher leads to activation of SIRT1 gene that protects the body from all the negative diseases that can emerge in the future .
What are your thoughts about this supplementation combined with strength training ? Is it beneficial for older folks and for guys that past their 30 ?
Is there a high quality research in the production right now for this supplements ?
SIRT-based longevity claims have been repeatedly disproven over the years. Sinclair is unable to let this go, despite his colleagues at his and other institutions publishing evidence and directing him towards it. Sinclair has seemed to adopt a snakeoil salesman persona subsequently.
These supplements as they’re currently offered do not benefit humans based on research (see Brenner et al)
There is one human study of 10 Japanese men which found that taking NMN (100 mg, 250 mg, or 500 mg) increased blood levels of NMN byproducts, including NAD+.
The study concluded that oral administration of NMN up to 500 mg was safe and well tolerated in healthy men without causing adverse effects. Therefore, oral administration of NMN may be a therapeutic strategy to replenish cellular NAD+ levels to alleviate functional disorders related to aging.
Acording to same study taking NMN supplements has also been shown to reduce sleepiness and improve muscle reflexes and motility in the elderly, which can improve both physical and mental health. If you wish i can post link of study here, i do not know does forum allow it.
