Night Time Heart Palpitations and Strength Training - Could they be related?

Good Afternoon:

This is probably a really silly question, but here it goes…since I have been underway with novice linear progression for about 3 months, I have been experiencing what I think may be heart palpitations during sleep. I always have these episodes in the middle of the night (never in the day, or least I don’t notice them), and not generally on the days I Iift, but on the days in between. Could this in any possible way be related to my heart ‘adjusting’ to strength training? I have absolutely no prior, and no known current, heart issues. I realize this is probably totally unrelated, but just wanted to rule it out as a possibility, so I can move on to finding out what is causing these palpitations (or whatever it is going on). Of note, when I lift, I feel GREAT! I don’t notice any irregular heart rhythms when lifting.

Maybe some more background information that might help: I am a small person (i.e. have never been overweight); have always been active my entire life; at 35 I began peri-menopause and now at 45 I am 100% menopausal (yay for me!), thus I have been taking HRT for the past year (of which I am wondering might be a culprit of palpitations as well); and I have mild hypothyroidism.

Additionally, I have always had low BP, and I wonder if maybe my resting heart rate is getting too low when I sleep due to my heart ‘adjusting’ (if there is such a thing) to strength training.

Thank you for your time!

Glad to hear you’ve started training!

I think it is unlikely that your symptoms are related to initiating strength training, though. This is something that could be evaluated fairly easily with some form of remote electrocardiographic monitoring (e.g., “hotter” monitor or Zio patch).

Thank you!
