leg cramps have been part of my life since high school, although have become increasingly more frequent and unpleasant as i get older (71) - well hydrated, no medications which would encourage them, take supplements, so shouldn’t be lacking in K, Ca, or MG. would imagine that sarcopenia plays a part, but sure can’t find help from Dr (always ask if there’s anything new during annual physical) or online (have tried everything except the bar of soap under the covers)
however, did come across this at mayo clinic’s health site:
Stretch your muscles. Stretch before and after you use any muscle for an extended period. If you tend to have leg cramps at night, stretch before bedtime. Light exercise, such as riding a stationary bicycle for a few minutes before bedtime, also may help prevent cramps while you’re sleeping.
have tried the stretching, to no avail, but am curious if there is any medical logic to the stationary bike at bedtime - and any idea what would constitute “a few minutes?”
the discomfort isn’t fun, but is bearable (at least in retrospect), but what is troubling is the sleep disruption - that seems to impact recovery and everything else (have cramps 5 or 6 nights a week)
any advice or suggestions would be overwhelmingly appreciated
thanks! gents, love the site and look forward to a seminar in LA/SD area
