No bench press on the Bridge?

Hi all,

I am starting into the Bridge 1.0 for the second time now (I fell off the first time due to COVID lockdown). One thing I am noticing is that there is no traditional bench press written into the routine. Is this correct? I see DL, squats and OHP, but for bench the program has me doing pin bench, pause bench and close grip, but no standard bench. Do I just do these variants and test my 1rm for bench outside the program?

My ultimate goal is to get up to 135 OHP / 225 Bench / 315 squat / 405 DL and so it seems a bit strange to me to not include bench in my programming.

But I am a dumbass and this is is probably fine. Just wanted some advice.

Be well,

Bo

Hi Bo,
Thanks for the email here. The Bridge 1.0 program has several benching variations, including the “bench, 1 ct paused”. It’s part of the Day 5 programming.

Hope that helps!
Leah

I see all the variations to bench. I am just curious what the thought process is behind not having any standard bench in the program.

We consider a 1 count paused bench to BE standard. You could substitute a touch a go bench if that is of higher importance to you. However a “competition bench” will have a pause at the chest, so that’s why this instruction is used there.

Got it! That was the clarification I needed  Thank you Leah.
