So one of my friends is generous enough to allow me to train in his garage. He has a squat rack, standard bar, 45 pound plates, 25 pound plates, and 100 pound plates. However, he has no 10’s, 5’s, or 2.5’s, so it’s kind of hard to dial in RPE when the weight is either too heavy or too light. How should I continue training with this minor issue?
I’d probably keep doing reps at the lower load increment until I hit a particular RPE target.
It also shouldn’t be too difficult to acquire a pair of 10s, two pairs of 5s, and a pair of 2.5s. Alternatively you could use other ways to get an “intermediate” resistance between increments, like adding bands.
Hey just to chime in, look on your local Facebook marketplace for bricks. Most times you can get them for free. Duct tape them and throw them in backpacks on either side of the barbell. Works best for squats / bench / ohp. For deadlifts you’ll have to find smaller bags to put the bricks In. Your standard red bricks weighs 4.5-5 pounds a piece.
